Float in The Dead Sea Video

No life preserver necessary! Take a float and cake on the mud in the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea.

An experience you just can’t miss if you’re traveling to Jordan and that’s on many people’s travel bucket list is to float in the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. Though the name sounds fatal, and it’s true that no fish are swimming here, the Dead Sea is rich in minerals, which are thought to have curative properties.

You don’t have to worry about a life preserver here, but don’t try to swim either. Just relax and float away. Now if you have any small cuts, you’ll feel some pain. Ladies, I recommend not shaving for a day or two before you take the plunge. The Dead Sea is about ten times saltier than the ocean and that salt will sting. But with the yin comes the yang.

Even the mud here is good for you, thought to help with everything from arthritis to wrinkles, which is why you’ll see people lathering it on and then baking for a bit before heading in. If you like to take your spa treatments outside, this is a good place to do it.

The Dead Sea is bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west. You can head to the Dead Sea on a day trip from Amman or Aqaba or stay at one of the Dead Sea resorts.

Travel Tip! It’s obvious that you’d want to rinse off after your Dead Sea float, but many people also find that the water has a greasy or oily feel to it, which makes a shower afterwards even more rewarding.
